Although both dark matter and ordinary matter are matter, they do not behave in the same way. Dark matter does not interact directly with radiation, but it does affect the CMB by its gravitational potential (mainly on large scales), and by its effects on the density and velocity of ordinary matter.

Because space is a near-perfect vacuum — meaning it has exceedingly few particles — there’s virtually nothing in the space between stars and planets to scatter light to our eyes. And with no light reaching the eyes, they see black.

So, now on to the harder part – if the universe is full of stars, why doesn’t the light from all of them add up to make the whole sky bright all the time?
