Why do people go to college at 18 years old?

People go to college between 18–20 generally, because that’s what’s expected of them. It’s expected of them because high school does not prepare anyone for any kind of a job or career, nor do any schools I know of teach “life experience” courses so that high school students can get a sense of what is available to them other than college.
