Can you wipe a guitar with a damp cloth?

When cleaning your guitar, I recommend using a damp paper towel or microfiber cloth. Spray or dab a little cleaner on the towel and gently wipe away the dirt (Fig. 7). It’s okay to use a lightly damp cloth, but don’t waterlog it.

What cloth should I use to clean my guitar?

Most luthiers (the people who build and repair guitars) will tell you that the best cleaner is simply a soft, damp—wrung out, not dripping wet—cotton cloth, such as an old tee shirt. Use it to wipe skin oil, grime, and smudges from your guitar and then use a soft, dry cloth to absorb excess moisture and buff.

Can I clean my electric guitar with water?

Cleaning a guitar requires only a few materials. A soft cloth, like an old t-shirt or a sock, will do the job well, along with some water, glass cleaner, and a guitar polish that contains pure carnauba wax. An electric guitar can be cleaned in the same way as an acoustic.

Rubbing alcohol or isopropyl alcohol is a great cleaning product, but it is not recommended for cleaning guitar strings. While rubbing alcohol will do a great job at removing grime from your guitar strings, it can potentially damage your fretboard.

Can I use a microfiber cloth to clean my guitar?

The best thing you can do for your guitar, much like your strings, is to wipe it down after every play session with a microfiber cloth to get off the fingerprints and grime. This holds true for every kind of finish and every kind of guitar; you can never go wrong with a microfiber cloth for cleaning.

Can I use water to clean guitar body?

As long as you’re not getting water on any wood, water is perfectly fine.

Can I boil my guitar strings?

In theory, you can boil strings as many times as you like, and some suggest doing it after every show. However, you should keep in mind that after each boiling, strings will lose the tensile strength. As a result, the string might require more tension to stay in tune which can cause damage to the neck of the guitar.

Can I clean my guitar body with alcohol?

We don’t recommend it. Rubbing alcohol may dry out the wood of the fingerboard, and may damage certain plastic materials on the guitar, and in some cases, even damage the guitar’s finish. We’ve found that it can even make your strings squeak more! Your best bet is to use a tried-and-tested string cleaner and lubricant.
