Is the universe finite and unbounded?

Is the universe finite and unbounded?

According the current Cosmology our Universe is finite and unbounded, even if it is expanding. The visual analogy that is given to explain this is an expanding sphere where the galaxies are dots on it’s surface.

What are the limits of our universe?

Right now, in a 13.8 billion year old Universe, our current visibility limit is 46 billion light-years. Our future visibility limit is approximately 33\% greater: 61 billion light-years. There are galaxies out there, right now, whose light is on the way to our eyes, but has not had the opportunity to reach us yet.

Is the universe pixelated?

No the universe is not pixelated, it is an analogue structure.

Can a closed universe be infinite?

The universe in this case is not infinite, but it has no end (just as the area on the surface of a sphere is not infinite but there is no point on the sphere that could be called the “end”). This is called a closed universe.

Can the universe be curved?

The theory of general relativity, under which space itself can curve, allows for the universe to take one of three forms: flat like a sheet of paper, closed like a sphere, or open like a saddle. The ultimate structure of the universe depends on just two factors: its density and its rate of expansion.

Is universe a hologram?

The holographic principle states that the entropy of ordinary mass (not just black holes) is also proportional to surface area and not volume; that volume itself is illusory and the universe is really a hologram which is isomorphic to the information “inscribed” on the surface of its boundary.

Is the universe infinite or finite?

And that is probably the model of the Universe that we feel closest to now. But it could also be finite, because it could be that the Universe has a very large volume now, but finite, and that that volume will increase, so only in the infinite future will it actually be infinite. How would you measure the size of the universe?

And if the Universe is finite, well, it’s finite. You could measure its size with a really long ruler. You could also follow up statements like that with all kinds of crass shenanigans. Sure, it might wrap back on itself in a mindbending shape, like a of monster donut or nerdecahedron, but if our Universe is infinite, all bets are off.

Can We expand the universe without the Big Bang model?

We cannot until the Universe is homogeneous, as the Big Bang model also assumes. In particular, the infinite space universe with only finite matter / energy would also violate the Big Bang model, namely it’s Friedman solution – which pose rather strict constrain for Universe size and matter.

Is there more to the universe than we can see?

The universe is unquestionably huge. But is there even more that exists outside our observable bubble? First, it’s still possible the universe is finite. All we know for sure (mostly for sure) is that it’s bigger than we can observe, essentially because the farthest edges of the universe we can see don’t look like edges.
