Can God show himself?

It is important to remember that God shows Himself all the time but in little ways. You can see God’s love and feel His presence when you spend time with your loved ones, extend kindness to others and see people interacting peacefully.

In Exodus, God appeared in a burning bush, as a pillar of cloud by day, and as a pillar of fire by night. God appeared as a “whisper” to Elijah and in visions to other prophets. The Lord appeared to King Solomon in a dream, promising to grant what he asked.

Yes … God speaks directly to humans. Over 2,000 times in the Old Testament there are phrases such as, “And God spoke to Moses” or “the word of the Lord came to Jonah” or “God said.” We see an example of this in Jeremiah 1:9.

How does the Holy Spirit reveal himself to us?

The Holy Spirit will not leave us in confusion but will reveal the truth to us. He illuminates the dark areas of our lives to give us a clear vision of God’s purpose for us as indicated by 1 Corinthians 14:33 “For God is not a God of confusion but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints.”

Why doesn’t God force himself upon us?

God’s decision to not force himself upon us is a display of the free will (to accept or reject him) which he has granted us. God makes his existence very apparent, but keeps a low profile so that we can easily choose to reject him if we wish. He chooses not to force himself upon us because he does not want us to be his puppets.

The Bible records God’s appearing to people, performing amazing and undeniable miracles, speaking audibly, and many other things that we do not often witness today. Why is this?

He also gave it to us so we can have hope — hope of God’s forgiveness, and hope for His presence with us, both now and forever. The Bible’s words are true: “Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him” (Proverbs 30:5).
