Can I use a higher voltage charger for my phone?

Can I use a higher voltage charger for my phone?

Yes, it is absolutely safe to charge a device with a charger that has more current capacity than needed. Since the voltage is held constant (5V), the only factor that determines current draw is the load (another term for resistance) the device places on the charger.

What does DC 5V mean?

DC 5V/2A, means that the input voltage, to recharge the battery is 5 volts of direct current. 2A is the amount of amperage that is suggested to recharge the battery. This dose not mean that a transformer of lesser amperage won’t charge it it would just take longe.

Does charging a phone with 4 volts damage the battery?

No, it don’t cause any harm to your battery. The 4.2V is just the voltage that your battery will power your phone. The standard volts to charge your battery is 5V, (It depends on the manufacturer that make your phone). The safe way, you need to check your original phone’s charger plug and find the voltage ‘V’ symbol.

What is the difference between a 5A and 8A power adapter?

For example, your laptop may be rated for an 8A draw, but in reality, it only draws around 5A. Conversely, an adapter may be rated at 5A, but can withstand currents up to 8A. Also, some adapters and devices will have voltage and current switching or detecting features that will adjust the output/draw depending on what’s needed.

How much voltage do I need to charge my MP3 player?

If you care about your mp3 player, find an adapter that outputs in the battery voltage range that you have identified, or put a V regulator in series with the supply, to give you the ~ 4V you need. If you don’t care too much, try it and see what happens.

Why do MP3 players not work on 5V power?

Over-biasing internal circuitry on power-supply. Though unlikely, it is possible some analogue part starts to get close to over-biased at 5V. Most cheap MP3 players directly power everything with the 5V input, only switching operation mode based on its presence, so the chances are slim of this happening.
