How to stop acting on my Obsession?
Part 1 of 3: Freeing Your Mind Get some distance from the source of your obsession. When you’re obsessed with someone or something, being in close proximity can make it impossible to think about anything else. Stop feeding it. Feeding an obsession can give you a little burst of pleasure, so it’s really hard to break the habit. Distract yourself from your obsessive thoughts.
How to stop obsessing over someone?
Take them off their pedestal. It is so easy to overlook someone’s flaws when we are attracted to them.
Do not let their opinions define who you are. When we’re obsessed with someone,we usually think highly of his or her opinion,no matter how absurd it is.
Get a support system. Enlist the help of your friends to help you cope and get over a person you’re obsessed with.
Realize that you don’t need them in your life. This could apply to a new crush or an ex-partner.
Practice mindfulness. If,every time you start to think about this person,you do nothing to stop your thought patterns,you will be trapped in your obsessive behavior.
Distance yourself. Distancing yourself helps you shift your focus from the object of your obsession to your own life.
Trace the source of your obsession. This could mean exploring within and asking how your relationship was with your primary caregivers.
Find something new to do. Commit to learning new things in the coming weeks.
Seek professional help. If your obsession over someone is affecting the overall quality of your life,it would be a good idea to consult a health professional to determine
Stop and search. Next time you catch yourself having the same old obsessive thought,I want you to stop and ‘search it’ – don’t let it go unchallenged.
Snap out of it! Obsessive thoughts plunge you into a kind of counter-productive trance.
