How does other recommenders work on common app?

Other recommenders help illustrate an applicant’s interests and pursuits outside of school. They can show how an applicant works in team, how they contribute to their community, what creative hobbies they’re pursuing, and more.

What happens when you invite other recommender on common app?

Once you’ve added your Teacher or Other Recommender to your “Invite and Manage Recommenders” list, you’ll need to assign them to a college so that the Common App knows to send that recommendation to that school. This lets you decide which colleges receive certain recommendations.

How many recommenders do you need for common app?

We require two recommendations from two different academic teachers. If someone that is not a teacher can provide a different perspective on your work or personality, they are certainly welcome to send in a recommendation, as well; it will be considered supplemental, however, to the two academic recommendations.

What does other recommender mean?

Other recommenders are individuals you have worked with outside of school. They can provide context around your hobbies, passions, and other responsibilities. The other recommender types available in the Common App are: Arts Teacher, Clergy, Coach, College Access Counselor, Employer, Family Member, Peer, or Other.

Does common app require references?

Do I need to submit a letter of recommendation (or more than one)? The letter of recommendation is only required for a holistic review. You only need to submit one letter of recommendation. If you do not submit the letter of recommendation, you will be reviewed on academic merit only.

Can counselors see my common app?

You can allow your counselor to see a PDF preview of your in-progress application. Under their name, you can click on the ‘Enable Preview’ button to grant them preview access. Please note that a Counselor cannot edit or change your application in any way; they may only see the answers you have provided.

How do I know if my teacher submitted a recommendation on common app?

Application Statuses To help you keep track of your application and all materials, click Check Status at the top of the application dashboard. Recommendations are immediately updated once received from your recommender.

Can I reuse letters of recommendation Common App?

If you choose to use this feature, we recommend that when you complete the recommendation form, you keep it generic so it can be reused for any program at any school an applicant may apply to.
