Is it possible to change yourself as a person?

Trying to change yourself—that is, who you are—will inevitably lead you to fail and feel hopeless. But if you instead focus on changing your actions without worrying about how it changes you as a person, real change becomes much simpler. Y ou can’t change yourself, so don’t even try.

A key element in growing as an individual and becoming a better person is learning to accept personal responsibility for your actions, including your behaviors, emotions and failures — everything you have control over. We often put the blame on others, sometimes so subtly we hardly realize we’re doing it.

At times of crises, we find sufficient reason and motivation to turn ourselves into the people necessary to get the job done. But this sort of transformation is usually unsustainable. Being someone you aren’t meant to be may be possible, but opportunities for failure are endless. If you do succeed, you certainly won’t be happy.

Rather, you have no other wise choice than to be yourself. You can try to be someone you’re not – plenty of people try – but they all ultimately fail. We all have a multitude of character and personality traits.
