What is CDS (I) and (II) Exam? The “Combined Defence Services” (CDS) Examination is conducted twice a year by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for the recruitment of candidates into the Indian Military Academy, Officers Training Academy, Indian Naval Academy and Indian Air Force Academy.

Is it compulsory to give both CDS 1 and CDS 2?

No, It is not necessary to appear in CDS 1 and 2 exam. Both CDS 1 and CDS 2 exams are conducted separately in the month of February and November. UPSC conducts CDS exam twice a year where candidates are selected for the admission to Indian Army, Navy, Air Force and OTA.

What is better NCC or CDS?

The ‘C’ certificate is given to the cadets after the completion of NCC training in graduation level. An NCC cadet is always more trained than other candidates during the training in defence services. Therefore NCC certificate holders get advantages in the defence sector, especially in CDS recruitment.

Can I apply both CDS 1 and 2?

Is NCC necessary for CDS?

NCC ‘C’ Certificate holders in age group 19-25 years are required to compete in UPSC examination for commission though IMA (Indian Military Academy) or OTA (Officers Training Academy). The Cadets are exempted from CDS examination conducted by UPSC. The Cadets should have ‘A’ or ‘B’ grade in ‘C’ certificate examination.

Does CDS require NCC?

CDS Exam is an open UPSC exam and the only qualifying criteria is that you have to be a graduate, thus NCC ‘C’ certificate per se does not have any value.

What is the difference between CDS1 and CDS-2?

There isn’t any difference between CDS-1 and CDS-2. Only they come twice in a year. CDS -1 comes in every february, where as CDS-2 comes in every september. You are eligible only if you are graduate.

Can a NCC Student apply for CDs 2?

CDS 2 – in the month of November ( training will start in the month of October) CDS is written examination which one has to clear for further ssb interview. And through NCC entry ( if you have NCC certificate) there is not need to give written examination. You can directly apply for your ssb, and yes NCC students can also apply for cds exam.
