We recommend a suede sole with a rubber heel (split or full sole is fine, but if you have strong arches go straight to a split sole). A split suede sole, (not the rubber sole) is best for Salsa dancing (rubber is more grippy and we use that in other dance styles).

Do you need Salsa shoes?

In Salsa, dancers are transferring the weight quickly from the ball of the foot to the heel, and back again. Salsa shoes will help you to achieve the correct stance and elongate the back, it will also lift the weight slightly towards the front of the foot, while still evenly distributing the weight across the foot.

Jeans or leggings that are fitted through the ankle so you won’t trip on them. Cropped pants, capris, or shorts that you can easily move around in. Short-sleeved or sleeveless tops. A cardigan or sweater that you can wear if it gets chilly.
