Why is my teenage daughter pulling away?

Why is my teenage daughter pulling away?

Teens pull away from their parents due to a biological instinct to separate themselves in preparation for adulthood. If a teen pushes their parent away, it is often because they feel secure in the relationship and therefore take it for granted temporarily.

Why is my teenager pushing me away?

During the teenage years children tend to try to separate themselves from their parents’ influence in an attempt to assert their autonomy. In doing so you may feel your teen is pushing you away or withholding information about their lives (e.g. friends, what they are doing, where they are).

Why is my daughter so mean to me?

Why does my daughter not respect me?

As hard as this may be to hear and accept, your daughter may not respect you for a few different reasons. Maybe you are not cool enough for her. Maybe she is discovering things that is making her judge you. Or maybe over time she has lost respect for you because she thinks you are not being a good parent.

Do you still have a relationship with your daughter?

I love her so much. You do still have a relationship with your daughter, but, for whatever reason, it has changed. In your longer letter, you said you had lifesaving surgery a few years ago, after being chronically ill for most of your daughter’s life. I think this may be significant.

Why won’t my Daughter tell me anything?

Sometimes children stop telling their parents things because they’ve had a reaction they didn’t like, and then the parents say: “But she never tells us anything.” If you want to mend this, and you clearly do, then I would recommend some counselling, definitely for you, but ideally for you and your daughter together at some point (see links below).
