Is taking Calc 2 over the summer a bad idea?

Any of Calculus 1, or 2, or 3 in the summer session as an enrolled student — Bad idea. A better strategy is the review your Calculus 1 course in detail during the whole summer so that you can learn it better, and then continue onward into the Calculus 2 material if you still have enough time in the summer.

Calc 2 is hard because it is mainly a grab bag of integration tricks with no real continuity between them. You learn u sub usually in calc 1, then you have to learn integration by parts, by trig sub, by partial fractions, etc etc.
